Oct. 21, 2017 we hosted the 12th. Captain Tamara Long Archuleta Memorial Open Karate Championships at Belen High School Gymnasium. There were 150 competitors from 19 schools. This tournament raised $1500.00 for the Captain Tamara Long Archuleta Scholarship program. The Capt. Tammy Tournaments started in 2006 and have helped raise a total of $28,500. to help students with their college expenses. The Tournament Program helps raise money to host this tournament and to also raise money for the Scholarship Program. We encourage everyone thank the businesses and try and do business with the supporters in the Tournament Program.
The Opening Ceremonies began with Pastor Robert Browning's, Church of the Redeemer in Los Lunas, Opening Prayer. The National Anthem was then performed by Shodan Molly Chavez. The Daniel Fernandez Veterans of Foreign Wars performed posting the colors and provided the beautiful American Flag and Taps performed on a bugle. What an exciting way to honor our country and service men and women.
It takes everyone's help setting up the night before (Friday) so everything is ready for a positive show Saturday morning.
