14th. Captain Tamara Long Archuleta Memorial Open Karate Championships
October 19, 2019
The 14th Captain Tammy Tournament was our largest “Tammy” tournament. There were 225 competitors from twenty schools. We were excited to see that our former student, Sensei Josh Malcolm, Yondan (4th Dan), who has operated his own Goju school in Lincoln, Nebraska for the last seven years, was able to bring a team of students and parents to this tournament. They also got to visit the dojo that their Sensei trained in from the age of 5 to 23 yrs. old. Richard and Cindy were very pleased to be able to put $6000.00 into the Captain Tamara Long Archuleta Scholarship Program!
A special thanks to Rev. Jay Armstrong from Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, (a Belen Goju Ryu Sandan) for opening the tournment with prayer. Hen then worked as Center Referee and judge starting with the Tiny Totsw (4 and under) up to the Young Adults.
A special thanks to Molly Chavez (a Belen Goju Ryu Shodan) for performing the National Anthem.
A special thanks to our Color Guard Team. The Women Veteran Warriors with Valentana Aguilar-Garcia, Sharon Lester, MaryAnn Bullhead, Judy Quintana and Diana Wong.
A special thanks to Alfredo Bomez, US Ary Veteran RFTW (Ride For The Wall) and members of American Legion Riders Chapter 25. Alfredo presented a KIA Honor Flag in Tammy’s memory to e signed by any who wanted and also presented up his framed rubbing of Tammy’s name from the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial “Lest We Forget” in Marseilles, Illinois.

We are so appreciative of the support of our Students and their Parents for helping to host this event. Friday night the gym is set up so that on Saturday morning when we arrive at 7:30 am all we have to do is plug in the coffee pot and the show is ready to begin. Thank you everyone!!
